Dinner with Mom on 27.12.2014 & A Little B'day Treat

I met up with dear Mommy just yesterday along with D.
We went to a coffee shop near AMK Hub.
Turned out pretty well...

They made this bean curd themselves

Lotus Roots were really crunchy!

Lovely Red Snapper...
I luuurrvvvveeee steam fish. So does Mommy!

Damage? 50 odd dollars. Not bad I say...

A little b'day treat from Kintamani Restaurant in Furama Riverfront Hotel
The buffet at Kintamani Restaurant really isn't worth it.
I've yet to try this cake though... I'm going to give 3/4 of it to my neighbor later.
Why? We don't have many mouths to finish the food.
J's not a great eater and he's very careful about his food. Our helper is the same so that leaves me.
I can't finish a whole load of food myself and on the other hand, I'm on a healthy diet! Heh heh...

Hope your Sunday went well so far... I'm going to read more on VegSmoothieBunny's blog!

Essensuals Bugis

Talk about 'suay-ness'. Suay = unlucky.
I wanted to go to Rise Hair Salon for a hair treatment after a pleasant first visit.
I gave them a call earlier this month only to find out that they have closed permanently.
Nnnooooo!!! Why does it have to turn out this way?!
Okie so after that, I started looking for hair treatment in another good place and couldn't find any.
I ended up in Essensuals at Bugis, just on top of Burger King, after seeing Yan Kay Kay's comment on instagram about her hair from that salon. From where I stay, it took only 30 minutes to reach, provided I don't have to wait for long for the bus to arrive. This include the time taken to walk over from Bugis MRT station. That's pretty convenient for me. ^^

I went in and there's hardly any customers. Too early? I reached there 11.15 a.m. The crowd started coming in about 15 - 30 minutes later.
When I booked for an appointment weeks earlier, I told them that I'll be there for a haircut and hair treatment. It seemed that there's some mis-communication as Wayne (the hairstylist assigned to me) told me he wasn't aware that I was there for a haircut as well. Hence, after the hair treatment, I was left there waiting for a good 10 minutes at least. Well, Wayne did come and notify me that there's going to be a wait and he did apologize for the delay so all's good.

Overall, I quite like the service and the haircut Wayne gave me. It's nothing extraordinary.
It's just a simple cut. Simplicity is beautiful! ^^

The Nioxin shampoo and conditioner comes free. I believe they have a promotion going on now.
I did however, purchase a hair tonic from them, to be used thrice weekly.
I shall try the treatment from Essensuals for 3 - 6 months before passing my verdict.
All I can say now is that the shampoo, conditioner and hair tonic smell great!
The conditioner is really minty which is really refreshing.
Tonic - no need to use daily which is a time saver!
Hair is really soft after treatment. I washed my hair this morning and it's still soft!
I was taken aback when Wayne told me that the conditioner has to be applied to the scalp!
Well, I guess Nioxin is special in its way...

3 - 6 months later, I shall see if I would like to continue the treatment there...

Have a great Sunday Peeps!

Healthy Eating on 23rd through 25th Dec 2015

On 23rd Dec, I had Green Smoothie 1 for breakfast. My blender isn't working as well for the greens so I'll most probably get a new one come this weekend. Now that I'm mostly doing smoothies for breakfasts, it's really a thorn in my flesh when my smoothie doesn't turn out as smooth as I'd like.

Lunch was at Maison Kyser where I had Pork Ribs.
Frankly speaking, I was feeling a bit sick of the food there but I don't have a choice!
Dinner was Salad where my tum tum was really thankful for.

On 24th Dec, breakfast was Green Smoothie 1 again.
It was a flop as the blender was giving up on me and I added too much coconut water.
I ended up throwing it away as I couldn't see myself drinking that where I can see big chunks of baby spinach not blended well. Disgusting! Ha ha...
I made another batch with Greek Yogurt. Yummy... You can never go wrong with Greek Yogurt, in my humble opinion. I was supposed to have Apple Cinnamon Smoothie but as I didn't check on my planner, I ended up with the Green Smoothie.

Lunch was out again at Nam Nam.
I can feel my tum tum screaming at me.
I also didn't visit the toilet for the past 2 days.
Dinner was Pork Roulade and Lamb Leg.
By the end of the day, my tum tum felt really bad... Too much unhealthy food. No good...

25th Dec, I decided to treat my tum tum better since it really deserve a good treat and 2nd, the kiddos have gone back to their mother so no meals out! Yay...

For breakfast, I had Banana Smoothie. I just can't do another Green Smoothie with this blender of mine and also, I ran out of greens as I want to reserve the last portion for my salad later! =)

Lunch was Fruit Salad. Yum Yum...
It consist of baby spinach, cucumbers, grapes, apples, cherry tomatoes and avocado with Balsamic Vinegar Dressing. I added in some black pepper of course...

Dinner was something not so healthy but since it's Koka, it is the 'healthier' version of instant noodles. I had it with 2 x crab sticks. Those 'fake' stuff.

I felt hungry a few hours before dinner so I baked myself some Coconut Choc Chip Cookies!
I used Coconut Flour, Coconut Oil, Eggs, Salt, Vanilla Extract and Choc Chips!
Speaking of choc chips, I would get these from iHerb the next time round as they are bittersweet! Somehow, I didn't see them when I was doing my 1st order from iHerb.

I did visit the toilet yesterday and this morning! Whoo hoo!!!

So that's it for me! I shall update you on my meals for the next coming days soon...

Before I forget, I'm preparing my dinners in advance and I'll be freezing them and taking them out for consumption (I'll heat them up prior to eating of course) when it's dinner time!

For dinner tonight, lunch on Sat and dinner on Sun!
It consist of chicken breast, potatoes, sweet potatoes, red peppers and broccoli - all baked with parsley, thyme, salt & pepper.
I'll have them with Quinoa!

I'll be having dinner with Mom this Sat. Hence why it's Sat lunch and not dinner.

Have a great one Peeps!

Henderson Walk & MacRitchie

The kiddos were with us for most part of this week.
Monday, we went to Alexandra where we did the Henderson Walk. It's a manageable walk and still, the kiddos complained. All except for Fatty.

I don't know the name of this spider but it sure looks good to me.

Another nice looking one but frankly speaking, I prefer the earlier spider.

Saw this kitty dozing off on one of the seats at the Henderson Waves.
Lovely prints...

Come Tuesday, we brought them to Botanical Garden.
Wednesday, we went to MacRitchie Park where we did the Lornie Walk and the Tree Top Walk.
It's a whopping 3-hr walk! No joke!
It's challenging as well as there's a really steep slope before reaching the Tree Top but the reward after that slope is really worth it. This was my 2nd time there and the Tree Top never fails to amaze me of God's creations and nature. Really thankful to Him who created all these for us to enjoy... ^^

So that's how my past weekdays look like before Christmas!

Well, I wish you a Merry Christmas & Joyous New Year 2015!
Have a great Boxing Day today!

Healthy Eating on 22.12.2014

This is my 3rd day of eating healthier, food with more fibre.
I must say I'm enjoying it... In fact, for the 1st time in my life, I can feel my body craving for it.
Yes, you read that right. My body CRAVE for healthy food!
The past me loves rice, fish, meat, veggie, fried food, junk food and food purchased outside be it from coffeeshops or restaurants. Salads and raw greens? Yuck! The only raw stuff I like is sashimi!
The me now? I can't believe I actually am looking forward to my breakfasts!
I actually have smoothies for breakfast 3 days ago and I'm STILL enjoying it...

Today, I had Green Smoothie 1 for breakfast.
It doesn't look good but I assure you, it taste REALLY good...
It consist of banana, carrots, grapes, baby spinach and strawberries.
The recipe doesn't call for it but I added in 2 x Tbsp of Ground Flaxseed. Boy I LURVE this stuff!
I even add them in my salad for dinner which you're going to read about it further down.
For this smoothie, I added in some water and 1 x Tbsp honey.
The next time I do this, I'm going to skip the honey and add in coconut water instead of purified water.

We had lunch at Crystal Jade today.
On the 2nd day of my healthy eating journey which is yesterday, I lunched out.
Initially, I felt really great eating out! Imagine after all the salads.
Lunching out is like freedom... *singing*
Before I eat, I felt really good and looking forward to it. After all the eating, my body actually responds negatively. I felt bloated and just not that great. That's when I felt my body craving for healthy food and I actually looked forward to my usual dinner yesterday!

Come today, I thought I wouldn't feel the same way but after lunch, again, my body crave for my usual healthy dinner and I totally enjoyed it!

Dinner today is mixed salad with baby spinach, apple, boiled egg, potato, ground flaxseed and fried salmon skin with balsamic vinegar dressing.
Taste ssssoooo good... so good...

So one of the girls I met yesterday, told me that if I'm into smoothies, I should probably consider getting myself a good blender like the NutriBullet.
Go Google it and you'll know why.
I did some research and found out that you can get it on Qoo10 for slightly less than USD80.
I'm going to speak to this gf later tonight before I make my decision.
I'm really looking forward to eating healthy now.
Of course, life would be meaningless if you were to eat healthy 365 days a year, every year.
Hence, I allow myself some 'cheat' days. I'll try to eat healthy at home and if I do have meal appointments, I would just go ahead with it! I would definitely not go all the way out and bring my own healthy meal out. ^^

To read about what my 1st purchase from iHerb consist of, click HERE.

My breakfast tomorrow will be Green Smoothie 1 again.
I'll omit the Ground Flaxseed as my meals tomorrow is pretty high-fibre.
Hence, I don't need to add in extras in order to meet the daily minimum requirement.

Lunch will be out again.

Dinner will be the same salad I had tonight but there will be no fried salmon skin.
I'll add in 1/2 x cup of chickpeas instead.
I need to finish those chickpeas in the fridge that's why...

So now you know what I'll be having tomorrow!
A point to note: When doing all these fibre stuff, drink LOTS of water.
I'm doing around 2 Ltrs per day. ^^

Have a great day Peeps!

Din Tai Fung

As mentioned in my earlier post, I met up with my DFG girls for lunch today and I'd like to share what we had today so here goes...

This is my FAVORITE!
It's the 1st item on the list on the appetizer section and it's called Xiao Cai.
I forgot what it's called in English.
It's so light and delicious, I can eat 2 x plates of this myself!

I believe this is from the appetizer section as well.
It's I believe cucumber wrapped with pork belly with a garlic sauce.
Yumz...

Drunken Chicken
I'm not quite sold on this one as I find that the 'jelly' wasn't thick enough. Ha!

Some prawn pancake
Not bad... Surprisingly not oily!

A trip to Din Tai Fung wouldn't be called a trip to Din Tai Fung if you hadn't eaten their Xiao Long Bao. This is really nice... My only complain is that the juice in the Xiao Long Bao isn't hot enough.
Add in some ginger and vinegar and you're good to go!

The girls had fried rice with pork.
Many people raved about the fried rice in Din Tai Fung.
I find that it tasted alright. I guess it's 'cos it's cold by the time I tried it.
I shall order this the next time I'm there. I'm thinking of bringing dearest Mommy there along with my Bro. Her birthday falls on a Saturday! Nice...

This is what I had as my main - Pork & Shrimp Wanton Noodles.
Yummy yumz yumz! Love the shrimp! A tad small though... =(

So there you go! We had it at Raffles SC.
I prefer the outlet in Bishan. Perhaps it's 'cos it's nearer to home? Ha ha...

Have a great one Peeps!

What Do You Do When You Are Stressed Up???

I was just wondering what YOU do when you're STRESSED UP?
Do you munch on junk like choc, candies, cupcakes?
Do you turn to calming tea for help?
Do you go out and take a breather?
Do you play some games on your mobile when you get some time?
Do you go for an exercise?

Feeling stressed is a reality and today, I'd like to share with you, what I do when I'm stressed up.
I take a cupcake like the one I bought yesterday! See...
From Left to Right: Peppermint Choc (taste alright), Red Velvet, Kinda Bueno (taste better than Peppermint Choc but not as good as Red Velvet)

Can you tell this is my favorite? Ha ha...

Instead of eating junk, I thought of eating healthier 'junk'.
I give you... Labneh! It's actually strained yoghurt.
Let's get down to how it's done shall we? ^^

First, you mix 500g Greek Yogurt with 1/2 tsp salt. This time round, I use plain yogurt instead.
Change it to sugar if you lean more towards sweet stuff!
I'm more of a savory person. =)

Put the sieve on top of a bowl.
Bear in mind that it has to be a deep bowl so there's space for the liquid to drip down.

Next, lay some cheesecloth/muslin over your sieve or whatever container you have which has holes so the liquid can drip down. I couldn't get cheesecloth or muslin. So, I'm using Bamboo Cotton. It can be purchased from Spotlight.

Now, scoop the mixed yogurt onto your cloth.

Tie it up with a string or whatever which can be used to secure it.

Place this set up into the fridge for 5 - 6 hours, longer if you like firmer Labneh.
You got to do a few trials to get the consistency you prefer. ^^

The liquid (dripped out) is called whey which you can use to make bread, cakes etc. When the recipe calls for some liquid, use this whey. I read that it's both nice and nutritious!

Now back to the Labneh...
After 5 - 6 hours or even overnight, untie the string and there you have your plain Labneh!

Roll them into small little round balls and store in a jar filled with olive oil and a few sprigs of thyme.
In my case, it's thyme leaves as I don't have fresh ones at point of making.
Leave it in the olive oil for at least a day.

When you want to consume, you can mix the Labneh with some pistachios, parsley and the olive oil from the jar.
Eat it with bread or chips.
Yumz...

What I would do better next time is to leave it hanging so the liquid can better drip down as I find them still a little too soft for my liking despite leaving it dripping for more than 8 hours.

I got to know about Labneh from my cousin by the way.
I've to thank her for that!

Go try it out and eat it the next time you have some cravings or feeling stressed.
I can't wait to try mine...
I wish you a GREAT day ahead!

Homemade Granola Bars

I just placed an order from iHerb and I'm so looking forward to its arrival!
I'm going to embark on a journey of healthy eating.
Why? No, I'm not trying to lose weight. Constipation is the motivation.
For a period of time, I've been going to the toilet once a day.
Recently, I only went once every 3 to 4 days.
My tum tum was bloated up, frustrations set in, discomfort experienced. This is no joke!
Hence, I placed an order from iHerb after watching some YouTube videos on meal prep, healthy eating etc. Coconut Oil is just one of the items I put in my cart. Yogi tea is another one.
I'm a tea drinker and I'm really looking forward to try Yogi tea.
Without further ado, I shall share a recipe on Apricot & Mango Granola Bar!

First, preheat your oven to 170 deg C.
Mix 1/2 cup almond (chopped) and 2 1/2 cups oats (I used instant oats but the recipe actually calls for old fashioned oats).
Bake this dry mixture in the over for 5 mins.
When 5 mins is up, mix it up and bake for another 3 - 5 mins.

For the wet mixture, combine 1/4 cup butter, 1/3 cup honey, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
Put this mixture in a pot over the stove on medium fire.
Keep stirring until everything is dissolved.

When you are done preparing the wet mixture, the dry mixture is no longer hot.
Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture.
Combine well.
Then add in whatever dried fruits you want.
The recipe calls for 1/2 cup dried cranberries and 1/4 cup chocolate chip.
For me, I did 1/2 cup dried apricot and 1/2 cup dried mango, all chopped up.
Combine well.

Now, transfer the entire mixture into a pan after using a piece of butter to coat the entire pan
and press it down, hard.
Once it's nicely spread out, wet your hands (don't have it dripping with water) and press the mixture firmly down onto the pan.

It should look like this!

Next, put it into the fridge (remember to cover it) for 2 hours.

After 2 hours, take it out. Remove it from the pan and cut.

Voila! The end result!

I tasted it and it's really yummy...
Not as sweet as the ones purchased from the supermarket.
Being able to make these myself, I'm really happy as I know what's in my granola bars.
I no longer have to eat store bought ones which are loaded with sugar.

I hope you give this a try. You'll be happier now that you're eating healthier.
Once my parcel from iHerb arrives, I'm going to make a Shredded Coconut & Chocolate Chip version! Yummy...

Have a great Sunday peeps!

Sushi Tei @ Raffles SC

So J & I went to Sushi Tei on Sun. We had wanted to go to our usual outlet at Takashimaya but since J want to get some cheese, we decided to try the outlet at Raffles Shopping Centre which is at City Hall Train Station. Let me share the pictures with you...

Salmon Belly Sashimi
This is my starter. J had the same thing as his starter.
Thick & Yummy!

I don't know what this is called but it's some kind of scallop I believe.
This is one of the 'must order' for me.

We shared this.
I don't remember the name of it though.
Taste good though I would prefer the Mango version.

J's Main - Pork Curry Rice
Very predictable

My Main - Chasoba
Very predictable too
Call us The Predictable Family... ^^
Frankly speaking, the chasoba which I bought from Meidi-Ya
taste better than this from Sushi Tei. >.<

Teriyaki Chicken to go along with my Chasoba

What's the damage? I am not sure as I'm not paying...
If you are not expected to pay, don't even attempt to ask. Ha ha...

Out of the topic, J bought 2 x CD. One from Annie Lennox and the other's from Maroon 5.
Both are not bad though I lean more towards Annie Lennox.

Have a great Tuesday Peeps!!! ^^

Strawberry Hugs & Blueberry Kisses

Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and TWG @ Marina Bay Sands

I went to Marina Bay Sands last week to meet up with 2 separate customers.
We first went to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for lunch.
As it's rude taking pictures of food of others, I only took pictures of what I had. ^^

Pumpkin Soup which happens to be their Soup Of The Day
Not bad...

I believe this is Marinara Seafood Pasta
This doesn't taste good...

Double Choc with Marshmallows
To be frank, this is my 1st time drinking hot choc with marshmallows.
I'm not a marshmallow lover and if I can help it, I wouldn't take it.
I don't fancy the mushy feeling.
However, I recently watched a YouTube video by Laura In The Kitchen and she put loads on hers.
Hence, I decided to give it a try and I'm sold!
Taste good on the spot and taste good even after the marshmallows have melted slightly.
For the one from CBTL, I would have enjoyed it more had it not been so sweet.

For another customer, we went for tea at TWG.

I can't remember the name of this but it has cherry blossoms.
For tea, I like mine smelling good like floral.
It'll be an enjoyment for me to sit here on a Sat afternoon just sipping on my tea and having some lovely snacks. Probably a cake or two. ^^

I'll never go back to CBTL for meals.
This was my 2nd visit and I didn't enjoy the food on both occasions.

MME Challenge - November 2014

I was just sitting at my craft area, wondering what I can do with a background which I've created a few days back. I then picked out all the stamp sets with Christmas theme that I have and just stared at them for a few moments. I settled on Winter Wonderland and decided to do something and this is what I came up with:

I popped up the sentiment, making it look as if it's 'drifting'.

I added some black wink of stella to the lil' birdie.

These were created with a stencil from Tim Holtz with some Wendy Vecchi's clear embossing paste.

Distress Inks: Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, Seedless Preserves
Silver Sequins: Pretty Pink Posh
Stamp Set used for lil' deer, birdie and sentiment: MME Winter Wonderland

So there you go! I hope you enjoy and I can't wait to see your works for this challenge!
