Real Techniques Setting Brush

This brush cost 15 bucks

It's small enough to use for contouring of your nose, pad loose powder on your under eye after applying concealer, dusting highlight on your cupid's bow. These are just some of the stuff I use it for. I'm sure there's other purposes for this brush as well.

I like that this brush is soft like any other brushes by Real Techniques. It's synthetic and doesn't require long drying time.

Want to purchase this? Check it out HERE.

My Blush Brushes

Top to Bottom:
MAC 129 Brush
Real Techniques Blush Brush

I've no complains on the MAC 129 brush. It doesn't take up as much product which means that when I use this brush on a pink blusher, I wouldn't end up like a sick puppy when I go over the blush with this brush.

With the blush brush from Real Techniques, I have to use it with a light hand. It takes up slightly more product than the MAC 129 brush.

Frankly speaking, I like both brushes. I would reach out for the Real Techniques one because it's soft and fluffy. It reminds me of a bunny's tail. It's synthetic which means that it dries up faster after cleaning the brushes. Not that it matters for me since both brushes dry by the time I wake up the next morning. Price wise, the Real Techniques one is cheaper. DUH!

New to makeup? Get the one from Real Techniques. More money to spare? Get the one from Real Techniques and use the extra on other makeup stuff. Hey! There's always stuff to buy but there's limited amount of money. As such, spend wisely... ^^

Me? I happen to own the one from MAC before knowing about Real Techniques. Besides, I'm a sucker for MAC's stuff.

Ha! Have a great Sunday wherever you are.

My Foundation Brushes

This is the collection I've managed to gather so far.
Left to Right:
Sigma F80 Brush
MAC 187SE Brush
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
Real Techniques Essential Foundation Brush
MAC 191 Brush

I first purchased the MAC187SE brush for Liquid foundation. I've tried compact powders and liquid foundation. The compact ones don't have as much coverage and I just don't like a 2-way cake. When I venture into liquid foundations, I got the MAC187SE brush in a set. I use it as that's the only brush I have. Soon, I began to find faults with it. First, the bristles are too long for stippling purposes. I tried to use this brush to do some buffing but I wasn't successful. I've no idea how others do it. I find the bristles too long and not dense enough for buffing.

I then read lots of blogs and it was just a couple of months back that I decided to buy the Sigma F80 brush. Bun Bun Makeup Tips (the link here) happened to set up a store selling makeup stuff and the tools for makeup. I saw that she carried Sigma brushes and made an order for the F80 brush. She did a blog entry this brush and to be honest, she put hope in me again.

I like the F80 brush. The bristles are shorter and denser - Great for buffing.

You see, I usually use my brushes once then I would do spot cleaning for them before using them again the next day. I'll do a thorough clean once a week. A person only has 1 face and it's the face which people sees first so it is important in my opinion. As such, I'll try my best not to encourage the breeding of bacteria on my face. At times, I get lazy and didn't spot clean my brushes. Come the next day, I would forsake applying makeup when I didn't have time to spot clean them. I can't change the fact that I can get lazy at times and when I've the mood to apply makeup, I don't want to forsake it for any other reasons. As such, I need more brushes and this brings me to the brush from Real Techniques.

Having read good reviews on the brushes from Real Techniques and being so amazed with their Blush Brush, I placed an order for the Expert Face Brush. It's dense and good for buffing. Till date, it's my go-to brush with the Sigma following next.

Left to Right:
Real Techniques Expert Face Brush
MAC 187SE Brush
Sigma F80 Brush

I hardly use such brushes. I first purchase the MAC 191 brush to try after having the MAC 187SE brush. I don't like this. It takes a longer time to apply my foundation. I also don't like that the bristles are not dense. Why did I get the same kind of brush from Real Techniques then? I don't have a choice for it comes in a set. The name of the set is Travel Essentials. I've yet to use this brush. Who knows? I might like it!

Brushes from Real Techniques are designed by pro make up artist - Samantha Chapman. She's been a professional make up artist for 15 years. The brushes are made of taklon and they are ultra soft. You can buy Real Techniques brushes HERE. They are also very affordable. I like... ^^

I also use the Expert Face Brush to apply BB cream! Weekdays I go for my liquid foundation by Estee Lauder and come weekends, my hands reach out for BB cream by Missha. I don't think I need more brushes for foundation now. If there's ever a time when I needed more, I'll most probably get the Expert Face Brush and/or Sigma F80 brush.

Oops! I almost forgot that I've brushes from Charm. You can read all about them HERE. I've used their brush for pressed powder and I do not like it at all. To be honest, I regretted buying them. Oh well... makeup is always trial and error! ^^

More Brushes from Real Techniques

Remember I bought a blush brush from Real Techniques just recently? I used it and I must say I like how it feels. It has the ability to pick up not as much product and yet does its job of distributing that color on my cheeks. It's made of taklon bristles.

I got the definition of Taklon from Wikipedia. I'm putting it below in italics.

Taklon is the common name for a synthetic fiber used in artist-quality paint, makeup and pin strip brushes. It is a smooth, soft, and somewhat fragile polyester derivative devoid of any protein component or allergen elements and is therefore used in the cosmetic industries as a "green," "vegan," "allergy free" or synthetic alternative to animal hair brushes.

I placed my order on Friday and it was delivered to me on Thursday. Just what did I get this time round?

Setting Brush
It can be used to apply highlight on your nose bridge, cupid's bow etc.
It can be used to apply loose powder to your undereye.
It's small so let your imagination run wild and work the brush.
Retails for $15.00

Kabuki Brush
It can be used to apply blush.
Just wait for the next part.
Retails for $19.00

Look! It splits in half and you can use that to apply your highlight, bronzer etc.

Expert Face Brush
This can be used to apply liquid foundation or cream based products.
Retails for $15.00

Those are just items sold individually. I also got myself a set of Travel Essentials for $32.00. See what it packs.

From Left to Right
Essential Foundation Brush
Domed Shadow Brush
Multi Task Brush

The foundation brush can be used to apply liquid foundation or concealer. It's the flat type. For liquid foundation, I don't usually use this kind of brush but it comes with the set so...

Domed shadow brush is tapered.

The multi task brush can be used to apply powder, blush, bronzer etc.

Delivery is free so long as there's a minimum spending of $80.00 and in my case, I'm just a dollar more than that! ^^

This came in just this week.

Show you my goodies...

Blush Brush from Real Techniques
Retails for $19.90 but I've found cheaper ones after buying this.
From http://www.realtechniques.com.sg this retails for $15.00.
This brush is so soft, it reminds me of a bunny's tail. Yes that's right! A bunny's tail!
When you brush your fingers through it, the bristles bounces back. How fun is that?! Ha ha...

Sigma Flat Kabuki F80
Retails for $29.90 from dolltodoll Cosmetics.
Lots of raves, soft and dense, shorter bristles than the MAC 187 so perhaps better at buffing?

Sigma Large Angled Contour F40
Retails for $26.90
Not much difference with MAC 168
Bought it just because I need another contour brush or is it just an excuse? Hmmm... >.<

So there you go!!! Have a brilliant Sunday!
