Taiwan Itinerary 2015 - Day 2

Exciting day for us on Day 2! First stop? Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall! Took Metro from Ximen to CKS Memorial Hall Stn. Directions to CKS Memorial Hall after exiting the stn. Easy Peasy...

We were a bit late for the changing of guards. Nonetheless, we caught the last bit of it. Oh well...

Finally saw some vending machines in Taiwan!

Next stop? Dongmen Stn to Yong Kang Street!

Yucky Glutinous Rice with Pork Intestines thingy.
It smells horrid!

The famous Yong Kang Beef Noodles
Verdict? So-so... I had hoped for the soup to be richer and beefier in taste.

Shopped around Yong Kang Street area and saw some nicely crafted soaps!

Smoothie House for dessert!

No. 5 and No. 8
Should have taken No. 10 or 11 instead of No. 8
No. 5 was nice! Not so sweet and those balls... Love it! The jelly has a nice texture to it too!

After that, we pretty much walked around Yong Kang Street.
To go to Yong Kang Beef Noodles and Smoothie House etc., just follow signs from Dongmen Stn.
Once exit, walk straight and within a few steps, you'll see DTF and a bread shop next to it.
Turn right after DTF and that whole stretch is where you'll find nice eateries.
You can easily spot Smoothie House. If in doubt, ASK! Simple...

We went back to the hotel to put our stuff.
Thereafter, we went to their Cash Box to check out on the Karaoke rates.
We didn't go eventually but just post here for you to have an idea on what to expect...

We went to Da Wan Yakiniku for dinner. If you're in Taipei, I urge you to pay a visit there. You will not regret! It is THAT good! If beef is not your thing, then visit one of the many night markets in Taipei for dinner then... If you're interested to visit Da Wan Yakiniku, please, please, please, make reservations at least 2 weeks in advance. I made mine 1 month in advance! Ha ha...
Don't say I don't share. You can contact them at +886227110179. Nearest Metro Stn is either Zhongxiao Dunhua or Zhongxiao Fuxing. Call them and ask for directions. I took a cab from Ximen to Da Wan Yakiniku for slightly more than NT200 which is around SGD8.90 at exchange rate of 22.5. Oh ya... if you want to change to NT, please do it at DBS Bank in Taipei (I went to the one in Sun Yat Sen Stn) or at Taoyuan Airport - Bank of Taiwan. The rate there beats the rate back home ANYTIME! The exchange rate I got from DBS Bank at SYS Stn was 23.03! Beat that!

A drink for me. I believe this is Lychee Cocktail.
Mom had Chinese Tea. She's been coughing that's why...

A very nice salad with sesame dressing

Beef Tongue! This is a MUST to order!

Beef Tongue ready to eat

Scallop - fresh and delicious!

Onigiri - Mom LOVE this!

Dessert - some sweet potato with cheese

Overall, I paid around SGD250 for all these... It's well spent and I wouldn't blink an eye to come again! It is THAT good!

My splurge for Day 2! Love that Mickey Mouse shoes... So comfy too!

I bought this shawl for Mom as a surprise.
We went to one of the shops in Yong Kang Street and she love this shawl but couldn't bear paying for it. Then, she went out for a smoke break. That's when I took it, pass it to the counter and asked the girl to quickly give me a receipt for it. Kept it from Mom throughout the entire day and only put it on her bed once back in the hotel while she took a shower.
Her response was disappointing... Oh well... The Dowager can be hard to please sometimes. LOL

Keep your eyes peeled for Day 3!

Dreamy C
